Apple has figured out how to teach iPhone to focus lightning fast

Apple is going to seriously upgrade the cameras of future iPhones — this is indicated by a new patent that describes dual autofocus technology, which solves the problem with blurry photos. According to the idea of Apple specialists, the camera will be able to instantly focus even on the move, in poor lighting or when shooting through glass.

The key to the solution is two laser sensors operating at different angles. They simultaneously measure the distance to objects and give the camera precise coordinates for focusing. If the iPhone currently relies on one sensor and does not always cope when shooting through glass or when there is glare in the frame, then in the new system, each laser will “recheck” the data of the other.

The technology is especially useful when shooting on the go. For example, when you need to quickly take a photo from a car window or through a store window. Dual focusing should also eliminate the need to poke your finger at the screen to indicate the focus point.

It is not yet known whether the new technology will appear in the iPhone 17 series this year. Apple is rumored to be focusing on the telephoto camera this year, upping its resolution from 12MP to 48MP, and next year the main camera may get a variable aperture.
