As Anthropic demonstrates in a YouTube video and on its website, Claude searches past chats upon request, summarizes them for the user, and offers to continue working on the same project immediately.
The new memory feature runs on the web, desktop, and mobile devices. It is designed to allow separate projects/workspaces and is being rolled out immediately for the Max, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions – more plans are to follow. The new feature can be activated under Settings > Profile "Search and Reference Chats." The search can also be deactivated there if desired.
Important: This is not a permanent storage option like ChatGPT. According to Anthropic spokesperson Ryan Donegan, Claude only retrieves past chats upon explicit request and does not create a user account.
In addition to chat search, Claude will offer personalization modules with clearly separated tasks: profile settings (general preferences, apply account-wide), project instructions (specific context and rules within a project), and styles (tone and format of responses).
