Apple's iPhone 17 series will be released in September. While there will still be four models, unlike last year, this year's iPhone 17 series will see the iPhone 17 Plus discontinued and the iPhone 17 Air added.
The iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with the A19 Pro chip, not the previously rumored A19 chip. However, the graphics processing unit (GPU) of the iPhone 17 Air's A19 Pro chip has been downgraded to a 5-core design. Only high-end models like the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the A19 Pro chip with a full 6-core GPU, demonstrating a strict hierarchy.
This practice may stem from Apple's tiered utilization of chip yields or to address the heat dissipation challenges posed by the iPhone 17 Air's ultra-thin design. Fortunately, Apple's A series products generally offer good performance, and despite the reduced GPU core count, the difference won't be noticeable in daily use for most users, especially non-gamers.
In addition, according to the latest supply chain news, Apple's iPhone 17 series will be equipped with A19 series chips across the board, including its iPhone 17 standard version. Some earlier news showed that the iPhone 17 standard version will be equipped with the previous generation A18 series chip.
