Apple announced on September 23rd that the Apple Ginza retail store in Tokyo's Ginza district will reopen on September 26th. Opened in 2003, this store is not only Apple's first retail store outside the United States, but also a significant milestone in its global expansion. Due to the 2022 reconstruction of the Sayegusa Building where the store is located, Apple temporarily relocated the store. Now, with the building's renovations complete, the historic store has returned with a brand new look.
CEO Tim Cook emphasized that this store holds a special place in the team's heart, and its reopening symbolizes Apple's deep connection with its customers and community in Japan. The fully renovated new store features four floors, a double-glazed facade with integrated adjustable blinds that automatically adjust the interior environment based on daylight. The interior utilizes local materials, with wooden panels echoing traditional Japanese style. The redesigned layout offers views overlooking the Ginza cityscape, seamlessly blending sustainability with a modern aesthetic.
The store will showcase Apple's latest product lineup, including the iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch Series 11, and AirPods Pro 3. The accessible design continues Apple's recent improvements, with new seating and tables at varying heights. To celebrate the reopening, the store will offer an exclusive "Today at Apple Spotlight" session, exploring spatial audio technology through the single "U.M.A." in collaboration with Japanese music group Number_i. This program will run until October 11th. Customers can also schedule an Apple Vision Pro demo and experience behind-the-scenes footage of an immersive music video. This 22-year-old store is ushering in a new chapter for Apple in Japan with an innovative approach.
