According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a new operating system codenamed "Charismatic." This system, believed to be the long-rumored "homeOS," is designed to provide a unified software platform for future smart home devices.
According to Gurman's report, the new operating system will initially be used in Apple's planned smart home hub, expected to launch in 2026, and a desktop robot product, possibly released in 2027. The system will integrate the design philosophies and features of existing tvOS and watchOS to create an interactive environment optimized for home use. For example, the user interface is expected to adopt a hexagonal grid layout of app icons similar to the Apple Watch, emphasizing intuitiveness and ease of use.
The operating system's interface design will be centered around a clock face and widgets, highlighting real-time information display and quick access. Users will primarily interact with the device through Siri voice commands, but the system will also support touch controls to adapt to different usage scenarios. Pre-installed apps are expected to include everyday tools such as Calendar, Camera, Music, Reminders, and Notes.
Notably, the new system will feature multi-user recognition. The device's front-facing camera automatically recognizes faces when users approach and dynamically adjusts the interface layout, function settings, and content recommendations based on personal preferences, delivering a personalized, seamless experience. This design makes the device easier to share among family members.
