OpenMind recently officially launched OM1 Beta, the world's first "AI-native" open-source robotics system. The system has been released on GitHub under the MIT license. This innovative platform aims to establish a unified development foundation, enabling different types of robots—quadruped, biped, humanoid, and wheeled—to achieve perception, reasoning, and action within a common ecosystem, marking a new era of standardization in robotics development.
The OM1 Beta system's most prominent feature is its hardware-agnostic design, allowing developers to quickly deploy it through Docker images. The system is compatible with both AMD64 and ARM64 architectures and can flexibly integrate with mainstream AI models such as OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, and xAI. Currently, the system natively supports several robotics products, including Unitree G1/Go2, TurtleBot, and UBTECH, significantly lowering the development barrier. This open architecture not only accelerates product iteration but also enables interoperability across different hardware.
At the core technology level, OM1 integrates three systems: simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), LiDAR sensors, and Nav2 path planning, enabling autonomous robot movement in complex environments. To reduce development risks, OpenMind provides the Gazebo simulation environment for developers to test their designs before deploying them to actual hardware. The OM1 Avatar front-end, developed in React, displays the robot's status and avatar in real time, significantly improving development efficiency and the interactive experience. This combination of innovative tools is redefining the processes and standards of robotics development.
