From September 14th to 15th, local time, Chinese and US trade delegations held talks in Madrid, Spain, reaching a basic framework consensus on resolving the TikTok issue through cooperation and reducing investment barriers. Li Chenggang, China's International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, stated after the meeting that the talks were an important step in implementing the consensus reached during the call between the two presidents, and that the two sides engaged in candid communication based on mutual respect and equal consultation.
Regarding the TikTok issue, Li Chenggang emphasized that China opposes the politicization of technological issues, will safeguard national interests and corporate rights in accordance with the law, and supports businesses conducting commercial negotiations based on market principles. Wang Jingtao, Deputy Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, further revealed that the two sides have reached consensus on the entrusted operation of TikTok's US user data and intellectual property licensing, and that China will review and approve relevant technology exports in accordance with the law.
Despite this progress, Li Chenggang noted that the US has recently continued to expand sanctions on Chinese entities, which China firmly opposes. He urged the US to correct its mistakes and jointly safeguard the achievements of economic and trade cooperation. The results of the talks were hard-won, and the two sides will continue to negotiate details and fulfill domestic procedures to promote the stable development of China-US economic and trade relations. China also expressed gratitude for the support provided by Spain as the host country.
