Google today announced that its latest AI video generation model, Veo 3, has been officially integrated into its first-party photo app, Google Photos. US users can now use the "Subtle Motion" or "Feeling Lucky" features in the "Create" tab to convert still photos into 4-second dynamic videos with a single click. This upgrade replaces the Veo 2 model launched in July, and Google spokesperson Marconi emphasized that the new model significantly improves video clarity and realism.
Veo 3 was initially announced at Google I/O in May, alongside the text-to-video tool Flow. In August, users were able to experience an early version of Vids, an AI video editor that features AI avatars that can express messages on behalf of users. Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Gemini, previously noted that Veo 3's core strength lies in its "extremely realistic" audio generation capabilities, a feature previously available only to users with the $250 per month "AI Ultra" subscription.
Currently, free users can generate a limited number of silent videos per day, but Ultra and Pro subscribers enjoy higher limits and full functionality. The new feature has been integrated into the "Create" tab of Photos. In addition to adding basic actions, users can also convert images into 3D animations for export, or use the "Highlights" feature to automatically generate photo highlights videos based on keywords. This update further lowers the threshold for video creation and promotes the popularization of AI technology.
