Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman published the latest Power On newsletter tonight, revealing that Apple is testing a new Siri feature designed to allow iPhone users to perform precise actions using only their voice. If all goes well, it could be a game-changer.
According to reports, this feature will leverage improved App Intents technology to enable deep control across apps, including finding, editing, and sending specific photos, commenting on social media, browsing shopping apps and adding items to carts, and even logging into apps or services without touching the screen.
This feature was reportedly originally planned to launch with the next generation of Siri, but due to internal testing and compatibility issues, it was delayed until next spring. It will launch alongside a comprehensive upgrade of Siri's infrastructure.
Sources say Apple's global data operations team has prioritized this feature for testing to ensure compatibility with a sufficient number of apps and its secure use in scenarios where precision is critical (IT Home Note: such as health and banking apps).
Apple is currently piloting this feature with a number of third-party apps, including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and some games, as well as Apple's own apps. For highly sensitive categories like banking, Apple is considering limiting Siri's scope of operation, or even excluding such banking apps entirely.
Gurman believes this technology is not only a key AI upgrade for Siri, but also a significant step forward in Apple's efforts to build a "voice-first" interactive ecosystem. In the future, Apple plans to incorporate this voice technology into smart home devices currently under development, including the smart display planned for release next year and a subsequent desktop robot.
