In April of this year, OmniVision launched the OV50X, a 1-inch sensor with a large footprint. It boasts 50 megapixels and a single pixel size of 1.6μm, designed for flagship smartphones.
According to sources, OmniVision Group has announced that the OV50X CMOS image sensor has entered mass production. This suggests that the next generation of flagship phones may adopt this 1-inch sensor in large quantities.
According to OmniVision officials, the OV50X can achieve HDR shooting with a single exposure, offering excellent low-light performance and enabling cinematic-quality video capture.
The large 1-inch sensor allows for ample light intake, delivering single-exposure HDR close to 110dB. It supports four-in-one pixel binning, reaching a maximum pixel count of 12.5 million, high frame rates of 180 fps and 60 fps, and employs three-channel HDR.
For video capture, it supports up to 8K video and features dual analog gain (DAG) HDR and in-sensor crop zoom.
In the current mobile phone market, 1-inch flagship sensors are mainly divided into Sony and domestic brands such as SmartSens. OmniVision's entry can provide more options and even make the 1-inch solution popular in flagship models.
