After the resounding success of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, RPG fans sat waiting for a Dragon Age re-release. Alas, they apparently won't be waiting any longer.
Mark Darrah, the former producer of the fantasy series, shared some bad news with fans: It turns out that Electronic Arts doesn't see the point in updating Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age: Inquisition. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Darrah admitted that BioWare had approached the publisher several times with the proposal to revive the trilogy, but it failed.
The producer assured them that the company abandoned the idea due to production costs and the sheer volume of work involved. Remember, Mass Effect was created on Unreal Engine 3, so visually updating all three space operas would be relatively easy, and the first, second, and third Dragon Ages have different technical foundations. Note that in the fall, a current series lead hinted that a remake of the fantasy saga might be problematic.
Darrah had previously considered remaking Dragon Age: Origins. He suggests that a third-party studio could help complete the project, and given that BioWare is currently fully focused on Mass Effect 4, it's unlikely it would commit to another major release.
