Temu Mexico is open to individual sellers. Local stores are free of commission to tap into the Latin American blue ocean

The semi-managed local store policy of the cross-border e-commerce platform Temu Mexico Station has undergone major changes, and the entry channel will be officially opened to individual sellers from June 20, 2025. Under the new regulations, individual sellers only need to provide a Mexican ID card or passport (choose one of the two) and the corresponding tax number (RFC) to apply for a store, while cross-border stores are still limited to companies in mainland China or Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The differentiated access strategies of the two pave a diversified entry path for sellers from different backgrounds. ‌

After entering, local sellers can enjoy the flexible mechanism of "no price verification, low markup rate, and self-payment of taxes", and are exempt from deposits and platform commissions. The operating cost is significantly lower than the cross-border model that requires a deposit of 10,000 yuan. At the same time, Mexico's new RFC regulations in 2025 require sellers to complete tax number registration, otherwise the platform will withhold 20% income tax and 16% cross-border value-added tax, and compliant operations have become a key threshold. ‌

As the second largest e-commerce market in Latin America with a population of over 120 million, Mexico is expected to have 80 million online consumers in 2025, and the market size will exceed US$45 billion, with young users accounting for more than 50%. Its popular consumer electronics and home furnishing categories are highly compatible with the Chinese supply chain, and coupled with the relaxed local store policy, it is attracting cross-border sellers to quickly gain a foothold by registering local entities or jointly operating. In this context, Temu's strategic intention to leverage Mexico to tap the Latin American market is already clear, and the entry of individual sellers may accelerate the reconstruction of the regional ecosystem.
