The Taiwanese company unexpectedly entered the TV set-top box market with the Acer 4K UHD Google TV Box model. This novelty runs on the Google TV operating system and stands out for its extensive interface.
In addition to standard HDMI, the set-top box features USB Type-C, USB Type-A, Ethernet, a microSD slot, and an S/PDIF optical audio output. A separate power connector frees up the USB Type-C.
The Amlogic S905X5 quad-core chip (Cortex-A510, Mali-G310) with a built-in 4 TOPS neural processor, graphics upscaling, and Wi-Fi 6 support powers performance. There's confusion about the amount of RAM: the press release states 3 GB, while the pre-order page states 2 GB.
It comes with a standard remote control with shortcut buttons for YouTube, YouTube Music, Netflix, Prime Video, and voice search.
So far, the device has only been released in South Africa for approximately $80. There's no information yet on plans to launch in other markets.
