An Apple fan has recreated the iconic iMac G3 all-in-one computer from Lego. The project, hosted on the LEGO Ideas platform, has little chance of becoming an official set.
The original iMac G3 launched in 1998, upon Steve Jobs' return to Apple. Its transparent chassis and bright Bondi Blue coloring stood out among the drab beige computers of the time. The model is also remembered for its rejection of a floppy disk drive and its aggressive promotion of CD-ROMs.
The creator of the set, nicknamed Terauma, sought to convey the computer's recognizable features, including the included mouse, keyboard, and even its internals—the cathode ray tube and motherboard. All of this is captured in a reduced scale through extensive use of transparent elements.
According to the author, the idea came from a personal memory: as a child, he and his brother often played with iMacs like this one. Now, he hopes this set will evoke the same nostalgia among fans and bring attention back to one of Apple's most unusual computers.
To advance to the next stage, the author needs to collect 10,000 votes. At the time of writing, this enthusiast has nearly 5,000 votes, but there are still 139 days left. However, even reaching the 10,000-vote threshold does not guarantee the set's release—everything will depend on LEGO's decision. Furthermore, the project must be approved by Apple.
