In today's reality, games need to sell millions of copies to recoup their production costs. Fortunately, such a high bar apparently doesn't apply to classic remasters.
Relic Entertainment announced that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition had been purchased 150,000 times in less than 24 hours. Clearly, the authors of the strategy are pleased with this metric, although it's relatively modest by blockbuster standards.
Recall that the original version of Dawn of War was released in September 2004. The RTS quickly conquered fans of the genre, selling 4 million copies within five years of its release. In the fall of 2024, the developers released Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Anniversary Edition, a collection containing all the game's new content.
