India has become Samsung's second-largest manufacturing base after Vietnam, which primarily produces Samsung mobile phones and a variety of other products. Samsung's manufacturing facilities in India primarily produce mobile devices for the domestic and export markets. According to CNMO, the company has expanded its assembly operations in India to include laptop production.
Local media reports indicate that Samsung has begun producing laptops at its Greater Noida plant in India. The plant previously produced other devices, including smartphones, wearables, and tablets.
The Greater Noida plant is a long-term investment by Samsung in India, first established in 1996. It is now Samsung's second-largest global manufacturing base for smartphones and other mobile devices. Plans to produce laptops at the plant are reportedly already underway. Earlier this year, TM Roh, head of Samsung's mobile business, stated that preparations for laptop assembly in India had begun and would begin soon.
Foreign media interpret this move as a significant boost to Samsung's presence in the local laptop market. While Samsung dominates the Indian mobile market, it is currently only the second-largest player in the laptop market, with a 15% market share. Local production will help Samsung's products become more competitively priced, thereby increasing the company's market share. According to CyberMedia Research, Samsung also holds a 15% market share in India's tablet market, ranking second. The addition of the notebook production line will undoubtedly strengthen Samsung's strategic presence in Indian electronics manufacturing.
