Among all video game franchises, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular and profitable. But it turns out that the series could have ended many years ago.
Alex Hutchinson, creative director of the third part of the action series, spoke about the creation of Assassin's Creed. He recalled that initially Ubisoft planned to make only three games, and the entire franchise was supposed to end in modern times along with the adventures of Desmond Miles. However, the first two Assassin's Creed turned out to be so commercially successful that Ubisoft decided not to stop and turn the trilogy into a franchise. As a result, at the last moment, the plot of the third part was rewritten to leave room for spin-offs and a sequel.
The Assassin's Creed series has been released since 2007 and has 25 games, including add-ons and spin-offs. The latest one is Assassin's Creed Shadows, released in 2025. Insiders have previously reported that Ubisoft plans to release nine Assassins' Creed titles over the next six years, including mobile titles, remasters, and remakes. In addition, Ubisoft and Netflix will film a film adaptation of the franchise.
