The inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games kicked off in Beijing. The three-day competition, which will bring together 280 teams from 16 countries, will be held at the National Speed Skating Oval, the same venue where speed skating competitions were held during the 2022 Olympics.
The program includes 487 robots across 26 categories. The arena features four main areas: a 2.1-meter treadmill for sprinting, a 5-on-5 soccer field, a boxing ring, and scenery depicting hotels and hospitals for scenario tasks. Outside, two support centers have been established, equipped with communication systems, charging stations, and laboratory air conditioning.
The competition tests both physical skills and the robots' practicality in everyday life and work. In the "hospital" discipline, robots must sort and package medications according to prescriptions, while in the "hotel" discipline, they must find and remove trash from rooms. Other tasks include warehouse sorting and factory material handling.
Leading Chinese companies such as Yusu Technology, Xinghaitu, Tiangong, and Fourier, as well as prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University participated in the competition. Among the foreign participants were teams from the United States and Germany.
