Geralt of Rivia's horse, a mare named Roach, has become not just a means of transportation, but a practically full-fledged character in the saga. In the book "Crossing Ravens", Sapkowski revealed why the witcher names all his horses the same.
Connoisseurs of the universe know that Roach is not the only one - Geralt periodically changes horses when the old one becomes "unrepairable". However, the witcher rides mares, not horses, on principle, and calls them by the same name. Internet users have noticed that in the new book, Sapkowski told how Geralt came to such an important decision.
It was like this: one day after a mission, young Geralt lost his horse, but they decided to compensate him for the losses. They gave him a choice of many powerful stallions, but for some reason the witcher was looking at an inconspicuous bay mare. Then the horse trader told him:
Sir witcher, horses are like fish. I am here with stallions that offer your choice pikes, and you choose a roach for yourself. What are you laughing at?
Geralt was quite amused by this metaphor - since then he decided to ride only mares and call them only Roach. Let us remind you that the book "Crossroads of Ravens" will be published in Russia on September 30. You can see its updated cover here.
