After launching its first mixed reality headset this year, Samsung will release its first AI glasses next year. These glasses will compete with smart glasses from Apple and Meta and will not run on Android.
CNMO has learned from Korean media that Samsung's first AI glasses may not have a display. However, similar to Meta's smart glasses, they will have a camera, microphone, and speaker. They may be used to take pictures and videos, answer user questions via an AI assistant, and pair with Samsung phones.
Samsung is reportedly building its own product line to secure its leadership in the smart glasses market over the next few years. Samsung believes smart glasses will replace smartphones as the next generation of always-on devices. Because they are always worn, users don't need to carry them in their pockets or remove them when using them. Furthermore, Samsung's first AI glasses will run on its own operating system, rather than relying on Google's Android. This is because Samsung foresees competing with Google in the future, just as its phones and smartwatches currently compete with Google's Pixel devices.
Korean media predict that Samsung's first AI glasses will not have a display, but future versions are expected to have one. Meta is currently a leader in the smart glasses market, and its next-generation smart glasses, Orion, will feature an AR display. The glasses will start at $299 (approximately RMB 2,100). Apple's first smart glasses are expected to be released next year and, like Samsung's AI glasses, will reportedly not have a display.
