While some are simply talking about a future where all content is created by neural networks, companies are looking for ways to at least reduce advertising costs by using AI to generate videos. The creators of the mobile League of Legends decided to do the same in China, but the fan reaction was harsh.
The Chinese branch of the mobile version of League of Legends, Wild Rift, released an ad to commemorate the game's third anniversary. However, the entire video was generated by a neural network: the characters looked different in different frames, their features were blurred, and the skills used did not reflect their in-game abilities at all. Furthermore, fans noticed that the creators clearly relied on the popular anime "Kaepop: Demon Hunter" for this particular video: some shots repeated footage from the film, and the video's general plot was drawn from the video. This ad infuriated fans, who began criticizing the creators of Wild Rift on social networks.
The ad quickly went viral, with fans criticizing every element of it. Gamers disliked not only the use of generative AI but also the extremely low quality of the finished product. As a result, the ad was removed after a wave of criticism.
