Ascendo Unveils World's Largest Home Theater Subwoofer

German company Ascendo Immersive Audio has unveiled the world's largest subwoofer—the 100 Sub Pro passive infrasonic enclosure, measuring 100 inches (over 2.5 meters) in diameter. Inside is a massive 21-inch cone.

Ascendo Immersive Audio has been producing high-quality loudspeakers since 1999 and large subwoofers since 2017. For example, the previous model with a 50-inch speaker could reproduce 1 Hz infrasound waves and move the same amount of air as 40 traditional 18-inch subwoofers.

The new 100-inch giant goes even further. It increases the cabinet depth for wider, more accurate low-frequency reproduction. The center of the 100 Sub Pro features four-point suspension and a new, flatter frequency response. Thanks to the use of multiple layers of damping material, the resonant frequency is lowered, while the body is stiffer and more resistant to vibration.

This subwoofer can weigh over 300 kg when assembled with its cabinet and is designed for installation in state-of-the-art home cinemas where the physical feel of near-exterior low frequencies is required – in other words, bass that can be felt.
